The 4th XI

I was so disappointed to see that the Club committee have decided to withdraw the 4th XI from the SNCL.  Over the years the team has given a great introduction for such a lot of junior players to senior, competitive cricket.  The senior players that have committed themselves so much and worked so hard to provide such a great environment for giving players the opportunity to see whether they want cricket to be a part of their future, deserve so much more than a medal.

Over the team's 16 year participation in the league there have been 228 games with 97 wins, 118 losses, 1 tied and 12 abandonments.  Carl Knight has played in 211 games, Andy Waddle 100, James Binnie 90, Sam Randall 81, Josh Knight 78 and Paul Hallam 77.

There have been 12 captains with Sam Randall taking charge for 77 games.

The team has played in 9 different SNCL divisions reflecting the natural ups and downs of cricket, particularly for 4th XIs.

186 different players have turned out for the team.  33 of these have also played for the 1st XI; the majority of whom have started in the 4th XI and then progressed.  Whilst 33 is a relatively small proportion, it is such a significant factor for all the Club's teams and the Club itself.  Having said that all of the 186 players will have made great contributions.

The team has scored 31,016 runs (Carl Knight 5,710), taken 1,696 wickets (James Binnie 138), taken 142 keeper catches (Paul Hallam 55), 38 stumpings (Paul Hallam 18), 564 catches (Carl Knight 54) and 86 run outs (Carl Knight 12).

There have been 6 centuries scored (Sam Randall 3), 99 50s (Carl Knight 30), 17 5 wicket hauls (James Binnie 3) and 53 3 wicket hauls (James Binnie 16).

The fact that so many names are repeated in the honours list above, reflects not only their cricketing talent but also their support for the Club, the team and the development of so many players over the years.

A huge thank you to all those that have played for the team.
